Shrimp And Prawns
Shrimp and prawns are a mainstay of coastal Greek cuisine and feature in many classic Greek seafood dishes. As a former prawn and shrimp fisher, these are some of my personal favorites. (I also love simple garlic butter grilled prawns!)
Octopus + Squid
Octopus and squid feature prominently in Mediterranean and Greek cooking. With a pleasant, toothsome textures and a nice mild flavor, it is featured in Greek fish stews, marinated and grilled on it's own or as part of a salad and of course deep fried into crispy calamari or kalamari served with Greek yogurt tsatsiki.
Cod
A favorite, firm white fish, it is great in one pan recipes as well as pan fried or in soups. Traditionally, it is also made into salt cod and used for cod fritters too. (I love it in this crispy fried fish recipe.)
Sea Bass + Branzino
These are popular in coastal Greek areas and work great as grilled or baked whole fish. Firm, white fish, sea bass lends itself well to many Greek recipes.
Salmon
These delicious recipes using salmon are both flavorful and so healthy. Quick and easy, they are great for busy weekdays but beautiful enough to serve on the weekend too! (These crispy salmon bites are another easy way to cook it up. Use them to top a Greek salad!)
Tilapia
Tilapia is an easy to find fish that is budget friendly. Delicate, with a mild flavor, try it some of the other recipes here too, if you like.
More Fish
You can use any type of fish for these Greek seafood recipes. Fresh sardines or other tiny fish, red snapper, sea bream and monkfish are some commonly used fish. (While not technically Greek, this mixed seafood cioppino is a great Mediterranean soup that uses all sorts of fish and shellfish.)
